Draw Real Hands

People say faces and hands are the hardest things to draw. But why? What is it about faces and hands that make them so difficult for the artist? I have my own theory on that. After years of teaching art, I see one common trait we all share. We think in general terms, simplifying things in our memories. And in our recall, we remember the basics, such as the overall shape, but many of the smaller details are left out. We are left with a very simplistic impression of what we first saw.

The goal of this book is to make you really look at what you are drawing-- to see the things you usually miss in everyday observation. Then, by breaking down what you see into step-by-step procedures, you can learn a process that applies to everything you draw. You can become an expert at drawing hands. And no longer will you be tempted to leave them out of your drawing, or, worse yet, to draw a pocket or mitten to put them in.
